All About...

The Blomdahl Piercing Method

  • Blomdahl earrings are made of medical grade plastic and surgical titanium which do not contain nickel. This is important because many people have nickel allergies and with Blomdahl piercing studs, you will not have to worry about experiencing an allergic reaction to your earrings.
  • The piercing studs are sterile and packaged into one-time-use sterilized cassettes to minimize the risk of infection. The cassettes are inserted directly into the piercing gun to ensure a high level of hygiene and safety during the piercing process.
  • Blomdahl piercing studs are sharp, long, and thick, which improves the healing process.
    • The sharpness of the studs minimizes the amount of tissue trauma during the piercing process.
    •  The long post allows air to reach the front and back of the piercing wound, promoting healing.
    • The thickness of the posts makes the diameter of the piercing large enough so that when it is time to replace your piercing studs, your new thinner earrings will not agitate the healing wound.

The Piercing Process

This is what you can expect at your piercing appointment:

At the start of the appointment, the nurse will asses your ears. Next, a surgical-grade skin marker will be used to mark the spot on your ear where the piercing will go. Once you confirm the placement, your ear will be sterilized and pierced.

Before the appointment is over, the nurse will make sure you have all the knowledge and products you need to care for your new piercing.

Tips for Piercing Babies

TIMING

The best time to pierce your baby’s ears is when they are happy and calm,

usually right after eating and a nap. Scheduling an appointment that works with your baby’s routine will help ensure a fun and stress-free experience for your baby and you!

DISTRACTIONS
Distractions are key for older babies and toddlers. Please have their favorite

toy or stuffed animal handy to keep them entertained and happy during the appointment.
For younger babies, pacifies, bottles, and/or breastfeeding are all great ways to distract from the sensations they will feel while prepping and piercing their ears.

BE READY TO FEED YOUR BABY RIGHT AFTER THE PIERCING

Babies are developmentally designed to be comforted by having something

in their mouths, typically a food source or pacifier. Preparing to nurse or

bottle feed your baby right after the piercing will calm your baby and distract

them from any minor discomfort they may be experiencing.

EXTRA HANDS ARE A PLUS
Having a second person present, who your baby is familiar and comfortable

with, can be especially helpful to hold and distract your baby during the appointment.

Numbing and Pain Relief

You may use a topical numbing cream if it will make you feel more comfortable. You can use any over the counter lidocaine cream sold in your local pharmacy. Please apply it at least 30 minutes before the appointment as it takes time to begin working.
You may use ice as a numbing agent too. As the nurse sets up and begin the marking process, you may hold ice to your ear lobes to numb them. Be sure the ice is not held directly on the skin, rather keep it wrapped in a towel.

For babies, icing the ears is more uncomfortable and lasts longer than the piercing itself, so it is better to not bother them with icing.

Tips for All Piercings

  • Always wash your hands before touching your ears!
  • Disinfect everything that goes in, on, or around your ears daily to decrease the risk of introducing bacteria to the site. This includes cell phones, headphones, Airpods, eyeglasses, etc.
  • If you run out of After-care swabs, you can purchase more for $8 or Piercing Aftercare spray for $10. You can also use a sterile wound wash that is available over-the-counter at your local pharmacy.
  • Do not use any lotions or ointments, such as Bacitracin or Neosporin. These products can clog the piercing & not allow for adequate airflow to promote proper healing.
  • Avoid alcohol or peroxide products. These products can dry out the skin and the piercing, which will slow down the healing process.
  • To avoid your new piercing from closing, wear earrings consistently for one year post-piercing. It is especially important to wear hypoallergenic materials for the first year while the holes are still healing.
  • No heavy earrings until your holes have fully healed!

What is normal during the healing process vs. How do you know if the piercing is infected?

It is normal to experience the following:

  • Tender to the touch
  • Minimal Swelling
  • Redness
  • Some bleeding or oozing. A small amount of blood is normal and can be the body’s response to the piercing process, causing a small hematoma

Signs of infection include:

  • Redness
  • Swelling
  • Ear is hot to touch
  • Discharge (pus or blood)

During the first 6 weeks of your healing process, if you experience any complications with your piercings or have any concerns, feel free to  reach out.

Make sure that you are cleaning your new piercing two to three times daily. The more you clean, the better your ears will heal! Always wash your hands before touching the piercing, only use saline solution and avoid rubbing alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, and creams such as Neosporin or Bacitracin.

**

If you experience symptoms such as excessive swelling or discharge, fever, area warm to the touch, extreme pain, or any symptoms that don’t improve over time, please reach out to your health care provider.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach out if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Piercings for babies ages 2 months - 1 year, children and adults (approximately ages 3 and up).

*All clients under 18 years old must have a parent/guardian present

Toddlers have an increased risk of infecting their new piercings because they may frequently touch their ears with dirty hands and attempt to pull out their earrings. It may also be challenging for them to sit still during the piercing process. My goal is safety and precision! Of course exceptions can be made on a case-by-case basis, depending on the temperament of the child and the parents dedication to proper post-piercing ear care.

The healing time for a  piercing varies depending on the individual. Generally, piercing studs must be worn continuously for 6-8 weeks and must be cleaned at least twice a day during this time. A piercing can take up to a year to heal completely, so it is important to wear hypoallergenic nickel-free earrings during the first year to minimize the chance of developing an allergy to nickel.

The Blomdahl piercing device uses a sterile set of sharp piercing studs to ensure safe and precise  piercing of the ear. I offer a choice of medical grade plastic or surgical grade titanium earrings to my clients. Blomdahl's piercing method and earrings are designed to prevent allergic reactions to nickel and minimize the risk of infection, ensuring the highest level of safety and comfort for my clients.

Yes! I offer an optional 6-8 week follow up visit. I will remove your piercing studs, cleanse your piercings thoroughly, and gently insert a new pair of Blomdahl earrings. My stock is always fluctuating so if you want a pair of earrings that I do not currently have available, you can order them off the Blomdahl USA website using this link to get 10% off.

Cost for post-care visit: $45 plus the cost of the earrings you choose.

Yes! I carry a limited number of popular earring designs made by Blomdahl. Please check with me regarding my inventory of in-stock designs. The earrings used to pierce are only worn for 6-8 weeks and are then switched out for any earrings. If something is not currently in stock, you can purchase directly through the Blomdahl website using this link and using code LEHMAN10 for 10% off.

My goal is to create a safe, caring, and positive experience for everyone. To help everything go smoothly, here are a few things to know before your appointment...

Informed Consent

Health & Medical Considerations

Informed Consent

Piercing is a simple procedure, but it does involve the body, so there are always small risks such as redness, swelling, bleeding, infection, allergic reaction, scarring, or keloids. By booking, you acknowledge that you understand these risks, and you are choosing to proceed knowing that results and healing times may vary for each person.

Health & Medical Considerations

Health & Medical Considerations

Piercing for Babies, Children & Minors

For everyone’s safety, please let me know ahead of time if there are any medical conditions such as:

  • immune disorders
  • bleeding disorders
  • active ear infections
  • recent illness
  • uncontrolled diabetes
  • or if your child is taking medication that affects healing or bleeding

If I feel the piercing wouldn’t be safe that day, I may recommend waiting or getting clearance from a medical provider. Your health always comes first.

Piercing for Babies, Children & Minors

For anyone under 18:

  • A parent or legal guardian must be present
  • Consent must be signed
  • Age guidelines apply depending on piercing type

My goal is always to ensure children feel comfortable, supported, and ready. If a child is too anxious or not emotionally ready, I will gently pause or decline to continue. No piercing is worth a traumatic experience.

Healing & Results

Piercing for Babies, Children & Minors

Jewelry Information

Everyone heals differently depending on age, body chemistry, lifestyle, and aftercare. While I use medical-grade techniques and high-quality jewelry, I can’t guarantee healing outcomes, symmetry in complex anatomy, or a specific healing timeline. Proper aftercare is key and becomes the client/parent’s responsibility once you leave the appointment.

Jewelry Information

Jewelry Information

I use high-quality materials chosen to be as safe and skin-friendly as possible. However, even hypoallergenic materials cannot guarantee zero reaction for every individual.

Jewelry replacement due to loss, breakage, or accidental removal is the client’s responsibility, and jewelry generally should not be changed until the piercing has fully healed.

Cancellations, Late Arrivals & No-Shows

Cancellations, Late Arrivals & No-Shows

Cancellations, Late Arrivals & No-Shows

Life is unpredictable, I get it! If you need to cancel or reschedule, please do so within 6 hours of your appointment so I can respect everyone's time and schedule. Late cancellations, late arrivals, or no-shows may require a fee to help protect the time and preparation that goes into each appointment.

Refund Policy

Cancellations, Late Arrivals & No-Shows

Cancellations, Late Arrivals & No-Shows

Because time, materials, and preparation are dedicated to each appointment, once a piercing has been performed, refunds cannot be issued even if a child decides not to complete both ears, the earrings are removed prematurely, or experiences difficulty afterward.

I completely understand that choosing earrings (both piercing and post-piercing) can feel like a big decision, especially for little ones. I’m always happy to switch out the earrings as many times as needed before the sterile seal is opened, so you feel confident in your choice. However, once that sealed package is opened, it cannot be resealed or used on another client. At that point, the earrings are considered yours.

When I May Gently Say “Not Today”

When I May Gently Say “Not Today”

I always prioritize safety, comfort, and professionalism. I may decline or suggest postponing a piercing if I feel it is unsafe, medically inappropriate, or not in the best interest of the client (especially children). This is always done with kindness and with your best interest at heart. Thank you for understanding.

Aftercare & Follow-Up Support

When I May Gently Say “Not Today”

I will make sure you leave knowing exactly how to care for the piercing at home, with clear aftercare instructions, and I’m always happy to help with questions. If you ever feel concerned about infection or a medical issue, please seek medical evaluation promptly. Healing success depends greatly on proper care at home.
